Four years after the launch of version 2, version 3 of the HEAL website is now online. The engine of the website is still the flexible and powerful SPIP, but the content has been rewritten from scratch to focus more on HEAL’s activities and on its members. I have matched the original PSD design by Toby Cotton with SPIP, adding features such as full searchable archives based on DataTables, Google maps for the “Members” and “Contact us” sections, a customised search engine that crawls five different HEAL websites and jQuery-powered tabs to keep content organised and easily accessible.

World Day for Decent Work 2010

For the third time, the international trade union movement is organising the World Day for Decent Work on 7 October. I have teamed up again with TTTP to work on a brand new design by Pixeleyes and marry it with a heavily customised version of SPIP. The events taking place in or around 7 October take centre stage in the 2010 design, which also features a real-time search box, a completely rewritten form for activists to submit their actions and an overhaul of the sections dedicated to campaigning tools, documents and multimedia files. Friskis and Svettis Brussels

Friskis&Svettis started in Sweden in 1978 and means “healthy & sweaty” in English. This non-proﬁt-making ﬁtness association offers an easy, fun and effective way to enjoy the many benefits of exercising, for a fraction of the cost of membership with a commercial gym. Working with TTTP I have moved the contents of their previous website to SPIP and matched the CMS with a new, fresher look that is 100% XHTML valid. Now volunteers at the F&S Brussels branch can update their website and the training schedule in real time… without breaking a sweat.

World Day for Decent Work 2009

One year later, the trade union movement is organising the second World Day for Decent Work. This year’s theme is the economic crisis and the fact that most of the world is experiencing big job losses at the same time. Based on last year’s layout (designed by Jean-Yves Leblon at Pixeleyes), I have worked with TTTP to give the website a fresh green face and add a new, streamlined form for campaigners worldwide to report their actions on 7 October.

European action against rare cancers

Nearly half a million Europeans live with a rare cancer. Despite the rarity of each individual cancer type, rare cancers represent in total about 20% of all cancer cases, including all cancers in children. The European Action Against Rare Cancers, a joint initiative by several leading organisations in the sector, launched an international petition that urges policy-makers and all other relevant stakeholders to give high priority to quality treatment and care for patients with rare cancers. Working with Tech To The People, I married the XHTML templates with SPIP, adding features such an AJAX-driven call to action that has collected more than 400 signatures so far.

Swiss Quantum

A little website for a big project taking place in Switzerland, which aims at the deployment of the world’s most advanced quantum communication network. The website presents the project, the technology used as well as the results of the extensive test campaign. Working for Tech To The People, I have matched the XHTML graphics with SPIP, giving project partners a chance to update the website in a simple manner.

Tobacco Free Europe

In the European Union alone, over 650.000 Europeans die every year because they smoke. This figure accounts for one in seven of all deaths across the continent. In total, over 13 million people are suffering from a serious chronic disease as a result of their smoking. The Smoke Free Partnership launched the “Tobacco Free Europe” campaign to ensure that the valuable progress in tobacco control made over the past decade continues and develops well in to the future. In partnership with TTTP, I have adapted the XHTML website template for SPIP.

Pesticides and Cancer

Scientific evidence increasingly points to links between the cancer epidemic and exposure to certain chemicals, including pesticides. This campaign website sponsored by HEAL and other national organisations aims to provide information on pesticides and health issues, and give a voice to concerned citizens, cancer sufferers and their families, health groups and scientists. I have designed the website templates for SPIP and added a series of campaign-oriented extras, such as an online survey delivering results in Excel-compatible format and an AJAX-driven subscription form for the website’s mailing list.

Know your air for health

A joint initiative by EFA and HEAL, knowyourairforhealth.eu is a campaign website that provides citizens with information on air pollution, i.e. all those tiny particles, chemicals or gases that are introduced into the air by human activities and that pose a threat for humans and the environment. Working on the basis of a gorgeous design by Christian Pansch, I adapted and re-coded the website templates for SPIP. I also added a clickable map of Europe, so visitors can quickly find more information about air quality and air pollution in their own country.

A gifted web designer (Jean-Yves Leblon at Pixeleyes), a top-notch web agency (Tech To The People) and a worthy cause: the right for men and women to work in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity. In collaboration with TTTP, I worked on the layout files for SPIP in what is possibly my biggest coding effort to date: a website in four languages, responding to the strictest accessibility criteria and web standards, where people can read more and report on the actions foreseen for 7 October 2008, World Day for Decent Work.

Good practice awards on climate change and health

A tiny little website, valid XHTML and CSS and 100% hand-coded, for an awareness-raising initiative on how climate change affects public health and on what regions can do to tackle both its causes and its impacts. No trees or animals were harmed during the making of this website, but some pixels were slightly inconvenienced.

Chemicals Health Monitor v2

The new website layout was designed by Resonant Media in the UK, while I worked on the additional coding and fine-tuning needed for SPIP. Features include a fully searchable events calendar and a modular template code making the most out of SPIP’s newest features.

HEAL decided to revamp its online presence following a change of name. The content of the previous website was preserved and re-organised by the HEAL staff thanks to SPIP. I then matched the new content structure with a new, colourful and standards-compliant template designed by Jean-Cédric Lognard for Agence A3.
